A Promised Land by Barack Obama

4.0

I've been waiting all day to write my review this book, because while it is a very good book, it feels incomplete. At seven hundred words, I had expected to cover both of his terms, but by the end it was just near the end of his first term so I felt a bit disappointed. I'll have to look and see if he's finished a sequel. I was shocked at the level of politics that I saw in the book, and I suppose I shouldn't be so naive, but I was disappointed. In what long-term politics seems to turn any person into, as he pointed out. I think perhaps that a system of sortition might help, ridding us of the need for elections. Maybe. But that would certainly require a far far higher standard of education, and of Civic sense and discipline and commitment to the community.
