Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert
4.0
It's weird. I thought I would enjoy this as much or more than the first book, but that wasn't the case. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, and it has everything to make a 5 star read, I'm just not sure if it's a favorite. Maybe I'm in a different emotional place reading this, or maybe I didn't relate as much to Dani.
This book was still comforting though, I loved the chemistry and banter between the Dani and Zafir but it never made me laugh out loud or anything. The mental health representation from Zafir is nothing short of exquisite, and he's such a good hero in this book. Dani felt like she could easily be one of my friends, if I went down the academia path on my life three years ago. This book was like a comfort read, I knew where it was going, and I was fine being on this journey towards their love.
I'm in between a 3-4 stars for this, since technically there isn't anything wrong with it, and it's such a good romance novel. However, I don't have a lot to say except that it's pretty sweet. I adored the characters both and believed in their romance, but I'm wondering if I was missing some extra spark in all of it. 3.5 stars after some pondering, I enjoyed the book and flew through the audio (which is fantastic), but I think the overall structure and plot of this novel didn't work for me. The language just didn't work for me as much.
I think I'm also in the minority opinion that I enjoyed this book less than Chloe Brown, and I think it's because I related to both characters that much more. Which is funny because I too have generalized anxiety disorder that's made me lose jobs and not allow myself to get out of bed. I kind of want to articulate my thoughts more on that, but maybe later.
