Jameela Green Ruins Everything by Zarqa Nawaz
4.0
Who would have thought that a book full of terrorists and intergenerational trauma could be this funny?
Dryly sarcastic and ingenious, Jameela Green Ruins Everything was equally profound and entertaining; Jameela's jaded outlook on life and clumsy attempts at being a better person were both relatable. I loved how the characters, even the terrorists, were portrayed as flawed and complex humans. The author did a wonderful job of contriving a mostly humorous and heartwarming story out of such heavy subjects as religion, bigotry, trauma, and violence without trivilaising any.
