Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano by Dana Thomas
4.0
This book had a slow start but man was it THOROUGH. Although it mainly focuses on their start and their collections in the 90s, it gives a fairly robust idea of who these designers were. I do wish we had gotten to read more about how McQueen was later in his career and where his inspirations came from. It definitely touched on these things but mainly focused on these designers at their start and height of their careers. Also as gorgeous as Galliano’s clothes are, he is still a misogynistic/racist/anti-semitic pice of shit. The novel ends on a somber note of the author saying how they think fashion has turned from being about the art to being about consumption, which I wholeheartedly agree with. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about these two designers.
