The Protégé by Brianna Hale

4.0

Laszlo was Isabeau's ward before he became her lover.

That's the book synopsis and if that is a trigger, this isn't the book for you. There is also a DD/lg component with darker BDSM elements added.

Laszlo saves Isabeau from the streets and gives her what her father can't. Not only does he give her a home but he cultivates her gift of music and brings out the beauty that she has in her fingers and in her heart. You learn about the characters through flash backs. He mentors her and brings out her best and just when it's time to let her go and fly, Isabeau decides that she wants something that he isn't prepared to give.

The characters are well developed, the story line is brilliant. The research that went into this book is thorough and great. I fell for the love story right away and couldn't put the book down. I began cheering for Laszlo and Isabeau early in the book and watched him care for his young protégé. You see the hints of dominance early; guiding her dating / non dating decisions, choices of good food, changing her schedule and offering structure. Isabeau has been raised on this dominance and immediately craves the structure when it's gone.

Brianna Hale takes great steps to separate any "official" age of consent issues. The blurred line between childhood and adulthood is razor thin but it is there. Again, all of that being said, this book is so goooood! I enjoyed it.
