I figured I would re-read books 1 and 2 before reading book 3. I think a large part of this book's appeal for me was the reveals and since I was re-reading and already knew the "reveals," the book just didn't feel as entertaining. I still liked the book but was mildly bored most of the time.

This was quite a ride! At times, there were lulls and I started to get bored but them BAM! Something crazy happens and I just wanna devour the whole book! I enjoyed how the characters were developed, I absolutely loved the griot stories and warden notes at the beginning of each chapter and each part. I felt that really added more background to the whole story without making it part of the book's plot. I thought the whole aspect of how the Embers ended up in Na-Ruta (the official story versus the actual story) was done really well. I can't wait to read the second book!
