This was my first Kate Morton novel, so it took me a while to get used to her style of writing. She really takes the time to give her characters flaws and motives and real feelings, which makes the whole story come to life.  I thought that her dreamlike prosy descriptions and skilfully woven flashbacks made every plot twist shocking. Many people were disappointed by the end reveal because it seemed "too tidy", but after examining every detail of a 70-year-old cold case from multiple perspectives, I found the ending to be perfectly satisfying.
