I’ve had a difficult time reading this past month after losing both of my dogs one week apart. The grief was overwhelming at times, and I couldn’t keep my focus on the page. Books that normally would take a day to read took 3 or 4. I started some but set them aside for later, when I could better appreciate them. I was leery to read Mrs. Nash’s Ashes because grief is a central theme, but for the first time in a while, I sat and I read. And I read some more. And I kept reading until I finished. It didn’t take effort, it wasn’t work.
It is a beautiful story that drew me in. with a lovely FMC and a well-drawn MC. Grief takes the spotlight often, but it is handled lovingly and with grace. The writing is assured. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was a debut novel.
When I reached the end of the book, I was smiling. Mrs. Nash’s Ashes came to me when I needed it. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
