I was really excited when I learned of this story. I wanted to know more about the Darkling because he's such a complex character. I loved his character in the Shadow & Bone trilogy, so I expected nothing less from this.

Unfortunately it was very lackluster though. Although I enjoyed the ending and the cunning, intellect, and quick thinking that Eryk came up with, the story was overall quite unnecessary.
