Looking for Alaska by John Green

5.0

Wow. I don't even know where to start. I picked up this book at a local store, then 10th Anniversary Edition, and waited a couple of days to start it, mainly because I was reading a book from the Steampunk Chronicles.

I read over 100 pages the first night, I could get enough!

The story is about Miles "Pudge" Halter and his question for his own Great Perhaps at boarding school. Alaska is his quirky, sometimes moody, but always beautiful next door neighbor.

I really don't want to give away the plot of the story. The book hinges on one date. This date is the most important day of the book, and you get to read about other special dates, starting at one hundred and thirty-six days before the event, and up to one hundred and thirty-six days after the event. The day that book hinges on....there is no way for me to prepare you for the event, and again, I'm not one for giving away the book.

When I reached this magical day, I was shocked, and I actually had to put the book down for a couple of days. I was actually a bit angry because of what happened. After a couple of days, I knew I had to finish it.

The days after the pivotal moment of the book are just as important as the days before. The characters grow in leaps and bounds as the school year comes to an end.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone. The storyline is wonderful and wrapped in sneaky metaphors that make you stop and think, or have a better appreciation of your own life and the fleeting moments in it.

"How will I ever get out of this labyrinth?"
