This book is getting lots of buzz, and lots of acclaim, and if that makes you skeptical then put your concerns aside and read it anyway. It's one of the best books I've read in a very long time, and I feel like the hype didn't even do it justice (this from someone who normally can't stand realistic fiction, so). I felt like most of the hype was about the subject, which is obviously timely and super important, but the writing is equally perfect and: Starr! She's amazing. I loved so many things about this book, but what I love most is that I get to bring it on school visits this year. Read it read it read it read it read it. Then talk about it with me. (my ARC is dogeared beyond belief; it's so so so gooooood)
