The Time of My Life by Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi, pub 2009.
“It’s so hard to judge your own life, to know whether you’ve made a mark in this world. Doing this book was, in part, a quest to find that out for myself.”
I’ve always been in love with the characters Patrick Swayze played - from Johnny Castle to Dalton to Bodhi to Sam Wheat - he always stole the show with his style and class. How refreshing and unsurprising to learn that he truly was a talented and beautiful soul. He revered his father who taught him that having a gentle side doesn’t make you less of a man, it makes you a better one; and you might not always win, but you never, ever give up.
He had such passion and dedication for everything he tried his hand at, acting being just a small part of his persona. He was most at home as a dancer but he was a pilot and a songwriter and a horseman and woodworker too!
Lisa and Patrick ended up getting 22 months together following the actor's stage iv pancreatic cancer diagnosis — and according to Lisa, her late husband of 34 years fought hard for every single second. (It’s important to note this is not a cancer memoir at all. His diagnosis is brought up only at the end of the book.) Sadly, Patrick Swayze passed away on September 14, 2009.
