Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
5.0
It’s easy to sum up my thoughts on Listen For The Lie by Amy Tintera – I loved it! It’s an absolute page turner that perfectly mixes a twisty whodunnit with wicked humour and if you’re looking for an entertaining read, this is it.
Lucy Chase left her small Texan hometown 5 years ago after her best friend is murdered, and she is found wandering the streets nearby covered in her blood. She can’t remember anything about that night and the town immediately labels her a murderer. Now there is being a podcast made about the case which brings a huge amount of unwanted attention on Lucy, but it also might be the only opportunity for Lucy to learn what really happened that night.
This book was so much fun – from the first sentence (“A podcaster has decided to ruin my life, so I’m buying a chicken.”) it had me hooked and I couldn’t stop reading. For me, what sets this book apart is its fresh and original take on a familiar premise. The writing is sharp and witty, and our main character Lucy’s sarcastic sense of humour had me chuckling throughout.
The banter between her and the other characters especially her scene stealing grandmother, Beverly and charming podcaster, Ben Owen, was so entertaining but also added depth and dimension to the storyline. I was kept guessing the entire book until the final reveal and the whole narrative just felt fresh, funny, and so enjoyable!
Listen For The Lie is a must-read for anyone looking for a refreshing and entertaining take on the thriller genre. I cannot recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to read more from this exciting “new to me” author.
