The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock

I am so... happy?

This was just a gorgeous and raw story with so much of the kind of writing that I usually struggle to enjoy. But in this case it worked perfectly. It was just amazing.
Basically, I just want to shake people and tell them to read this book because it was MY EVERYTHING.

The plot revolves around different teenagers living in Alaska. It is a multiple perspective story. Each perspective links together gorgeously and meaningfully. There was a lot of blood, fishing and fish cleaning but I JUST LOVED ALL OF IT (also there was a lot of actual sniffing and WOW DID I LOVE IT). Also the author is from Alaska, so she knows what she's talking about when it comes to the experiences this teenagers went through when growing up.
The characters were delightfully flawed and relatable, they all felt nuanced and innocent, in a way that many stories about teenagers struggle to accomplish. I fell in love with the amazing relationships, specially the dad/daughter gloriousness I was graced with by this book. #blessed.
Additionally, all the characters were so memorable. Like I remember all of them, even the supporting characters because the relationships where such a highlight in this book that it was hard to not remember everyone.

It was a short, delightful read and I am so glad I loved the title and decided to pick it up.
