A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie

*4.5
i think this waa the very first book i ever read in english. i don't think i still have it, but it does make me nostalgic to think about it.
i really do like the riddles in this one, and i somewhat do like the conclusion, too, even though about everone i like turns out to be a bad lot. i did faintly remember who had done it and it turned out i was right (and i wasn't too happy).
i do like that miss marple does somewhat overcome her usual good-natured harsh ways and seeming lack of empathy for the unintelligent and the ugly. she does care for the girl, even though it is wicked things like what miss marple used to say about gladys which probably led to her clinging to the man who'd kill her, because he showed interest in her. there is nothing good or kind in being "unkind but truthful" (even behind someones back), especially when it is not the truth, but rather brutish edwardian ideas of what is proper. everyone can be loved. everyone deserves love.
