Love and Loss by Lincoln Tuvelais
5.0
Love and Loss was everything I expected it to be and then some. I'm a big Jane Austen fan, so I don't take it lightly when a book claims to be similar to Austen's writing, but this novel certainly made the grade. The author managed to perfectly invoke the feel and attitude of a Regency romance.
While the plot itself wasn't particularly ground-breaking, a number of Regency romances follow a similar plot, it was very amusing and engaging to read. The story had some truly excellent moments, especially towards the end of the novel. The novel was wholesome and heart-warming and exactly what a Regency romance should be. With every page, I found myself enjoying the characters more and more, especially Kitty. She was such a strong and intelligent character and she made the story interesting. The prose within the story were good and the narrative flowed very naturally.
The one criticism I have is that I'm not sure some of the accents carried over well. There are a few characters who speak with lower-class English accents, but at times the intended sound of such an accent didn't really carry over well in my opinion and made some of the dialogue sound a bit awkward and clunky. Beyond that, I don't have any qualms about this book.
All in all, Love and Loss is an excellent Regency romance. I'd recommend it to any fan of the genre, especially Austen fans.
