There's something beautiful about the idea of growing up alongside a writer, someone who has always been in the cultural periphery. When I was first starting to take writing seriously, I remember seeing trailers for July's second film, The Future. It seems that I have never known a time without Miranda July. For that, I'm grateful. All Fours, July's sophomore novel is a quiet revelation: it's daring without drawing attention to itself; it's mature and introspective and wholly relatable. This is for anyone who's ever wanted to destroy their life to create a new one, for anyone who's haunted by the versions of themselves they have yet to become. All Fours is a story of reinvention and sublimation, fragility and want, the limitations (or boundlessness) of love, a story that reminds us that it's never too late to rediscover yourself... but you will have to dismantle yourself in the process. Perfect book, 10/10, no notes.
