I think this novella did a good job of setting Dorothy up as a villain. I could see her side of coming back to Kansas where she thought she wanted to be with her family but then once she’s back just feeling stuck and bored after having been in Oz. No one believed her when she told them what had happened and she was just expected to go back to her life on the farm so as everyone kept pushing her back to being normal her mind can’t help but think of Oz and compare everything to it and what she would be doing if she were there.
Two years had past and she was just over the same old day to day ritual. When she finds herself back in Oz she’s thrilled, and not only that her aunt and uncle were brought along as well. She can’t wait to show them this world that she’d been trying to make them believe in but all that’s on their minds is getting home to Kansas. The anger and resentment continue to build in Dorothy as she tries to show them all the wonderful things she’s been missing this whole time but every conversation returns to Kansas.
I could see both sides. She’s been so eager to share the journey she went on and when she finally can and they have to believe her they just keep bringing up the one thing she’s been desperate to escape. She just wants a little fascination and recognition. But on the other side she’s being really neglectful of her aunt and uncles feelings. They were perfectly fine with their lives in Kansas, it’s all they’ve ever known, they don’t know this strange land and just want to go home and she keeps pushing them off and she starts to be really mean to them, snapping at them, making snide comments about their lives. I’m very interested to see what her character is like in the first book, I decided to read this one first because I knew it was a prequel story and I needed to read an ebook for the month.
