This is top-tier urban fantasy!

I gotta be honest, the first two books in the Kate Daniels series were a bit of a struggle for me to get through - there is so much world building in this alternate Atlanta, that it was almost overwhelming to take everything in. Now into this third book, something just clicked and hit it out of the park! I almost feel that I should go back and reread the first two now that I’ve grasped the goings-on in this intriguing alternate world.

The plot is compelling, the dialogue is witty, and Kate is an excellent heroine - tough, sarcastic, smart, and full of heart. And our Alpha male, Curran…oh boy, what a character! Their interactions are fantastic, and the will-they-won’t-they is ratcheted up. Here’s a taste of their banter:

Kate: “His Majesty needs a can-I girl anyway. And I’m not it.” “A can-I girl?” Andrea frowned. I leaned back. “ ‘ Can I fetch you your food, Your Majesty? Can I tell you how strong and mighty you are, Your Majesty? Can I pick out your fleas, Your Majesty? Can I kiss your ass, Your Majesty? Can I . . .”

Curran: “To answer your question, yes, you may kiss my ass. Normally I prefer to maintain my personal space, but you’re a Friend of the Pack and your services have proven useful once or twice. I strive to accommodate the wishes of persons friendly to my people. My only question is, would your kissing my ass be obeisance, grooming, or foreplay?”

Anyways (and I do hate to do this with recommendations), if you were like me and almost put off the series by the first couple books…push through - you won’t regret it!
