Y’ALL! I do not read much sci-fi, but this blew me away, snapped my emotions in half, and continued to step on me.

The plot of this book is detailed, intricate, and beautiful. There are so many things going on, that it may be a bit hard to keep up at times, but you get the hang of it! From the actual layout of the book to the execution, I was hooked. You would go from following news about the Hypatia, Alexander, Copernicus, and Lincoln (ships), to experiencing friendships that our mains Ezra and Kady have, to reading about the danger of the sickness, and then switching to talk about AIDAN (Artificial Intelligence). It is so hard to get bored in this book. Impossible, even. The layout is intriguing to readers and non-readers alike with the amazing visuals and lack of extremely long paragraph writing. Switching from topic to topic leaves readers intrigued and interested in what is to come. I love, love, loved how the plot unraveled. So many twists and turns that will leave you reeling.

The characters were just the best. I fell in love with every character. While it may be hard to connect with characters at first due to the lack of dialogue and the fact that this isn’t written as a traditional book, you find yourself falling easily. Kady, Ezra, James, Byron, and even AIDAN are such interesting characters and I love them all. I want to take a moment to brag on main girl, Kady! She is SO strong, fierce, intelligent, pragmatic, and still copes with her emotions. Her character is such a role model to young women everywhere. Her character is really important to me because she acknowledges all of her emotions, good and bad. It is so important to me that emotions are addressed with our heroines because they are still human, after all. As for Ezra, what a king. Again, my mans is not afraid to show fear. I love to see that because boys everywhere are told they can’t show fear or be sad. Ezra rips those stereotypes down! Lastly, AIDAN is such an intriguing character. You will love him or hate him. Personally, I love him. He is so fun to read about.

Overall, if you’re looking for something fresh with some strong characters, Illuminae is perfect. It has an amazing plot and to-die-for characters. Science Fiction is such an under-hyped, so please read Illuminae. It will blow your mind!
