Historias de cronopios y de famas by Julio Cortázar

4/5

Absolutely hilarious if one is to not take it too seriously, or try to grasp its every reference or subdued social critique. Far from being short stories, the little vignettes that compose the book are as varied plot-wise as they are in quality. However, one cannot measure a compilation of this genre by its every component, but rather interpret it as a whole; in this case, little chaotic glimpses of reality laced together with Cortázar's ever-present wit and his impeccable way with words. Not all of the vignettes in it are remarkable, but they do at least leave a trace of a smile in the face of the reader, puzzled by what is not only a good introduction to Cortázar's work, but also to his unorthodox perception of the equally disorganised world, a legacy followed to this day by his fervent cronopicous admirers.

Highlights: Preámbulo a las instrucciones para dar cuerda al reloj, Fin del mundo del fin, Conservación de los recuerdos, Educación de príncipe.
