A Crown This Cold and Heavy by Stacia Stark

adventurous emotional

5.0

A Crown This Cold and Heavy picks up right after the end of A Kingdom This Cursed and Empty. This is the middle book in a fantasy series, so make sure that you read books 1 and 2 before picking up this one.

While some middle books in the fantasy genre can lag or kind of plod along, this one still has plenty of action and moving pieces. As with A Kingdom This Cursed and Empty, we get multiple points-of-view here, getting a glimpse into what’s going on with the major players across the known kingdoms.

Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige do a fantastic job of bringing these characters to life in the audiobook. I was especially impressed with how Sylvan captured the perspectives of Prisca, Asinia, Madinia, and the Queen. I was easily able to tell from which character’s perspective chapters and sections were told based on the tone, accent, cadence, pitch, and volume Sylvan utilized. As with books 1 and 2, this audiobook is highly consumable and is an excellent way to be transported into this fantasy world. I look forward to listening to book 4.

I received an advance copy of the audiobook from Dreamscape Media and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.
