4 stars - Really liked, would probably reread and recommend, but had a few gripes.

I think this is the fastest I've ever read a classic this dense, much more successful than last year when I spent a solid month and a half slogging through Charlotte Bronte's Villette. I really liked Wuthering Heights, couldn't put it down, was very engaged in the story, BUT also I disliked every single character except Nelly, and even she is on thin ice sometimes. It's a testament to Emily Bronte's talent that she was able to write a book about exclusively horrible people who largely deserve their misfortunes and still keep readers interested and concerned for their fates. Especially when considering that the main romance, extolled through the ages, is actually incredibly brief and doesn't feature much in the overall book.
