I received a copy of Wishes from Scholastic Canada in exchange for an honest review.

Such a beautifully illustrated picture book that enhances the very simple yet powerful words. The story follows a young child, along with her mother and siblings, who make an arduous journey across the sea in search of something better. The images contrast with the words in a way that very strongly tells the refugee story. While the story is told through the inanimate objects - it serves to show how while the human characters may be the focus, it is with little choice that they are brought to this journey that they must make. This picture book is sure to tug at heartstrings. The note from the author and the artist at the back of the story is also a must-read.
