The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

4.0

I usually wait a few days after finishing a book write a review. It's easier to sort through my thoughts that way.
But it's a been a few days since I finished this, and... I'm still not fully sure how I feel about it.

I loved how some things were tied in with the overall plot of the trilogy. The reveal about Vin's earring gave me literal chills! And Sazed's role in the end? I did NOT see it coming, but at the same time, it made a lot of sense!

As for the things I didn't like—well, it's a little harder to put them into words. The storyline kept me engaged the whole time, so there definitely wasn't a lack of interest.
I think...Ruin was a bit disappointing. I liked the concept of him and was expecting him to at least be as creepy as the Inquisitors, but half the time, he came across more like an annoying brat.
I also expected more of the characters to play a bigger part in the climax—actually, in the whole plot. Spook had some good development, which I appreciated, but for the most part, everything rested on Vin and Elend, and the others were just sort of there. (Kind of like book 2.)

Speaking of Vin and Elend, I'm somehow both sad and happy about how they ended up. It would've been awful if only one survived. And knowing how Sanderson's books usually go, it was too much to hope that they'd both survive.
