William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher
4.0
The concept of this book is golden--and the execution pleasantly surprised me! It's more than just a gimmick and there were several great allusions to Shakespearean lines and tropes. The move to depict R2-D2 & C3PO with traditional Shakesperean comic relief tropes was an especially well-done touch.
Because I'm a Shakespeare nerd, there were some things I noted that weren't quite Shakesperean: the chorus tended to be overused for plot dumps and there really wasn't the glorious side trails of word play that the Bard utilized. So I personally would have liked to see more of that.
But this is also admittedly a literature student being overly-picky. This was a well-done work as a whole--both in concept and in execution!
Rating: 3.5-4 Stars (Good).
