The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter

5.0

2nd reading - April 2022
This was the first book I read in the Grant County/Sara/Will series and it was a testament to Slaughter's expertise that I thoroughly enjoyed it without the benefit of the background stories. But now, because I'm reading the two series in order, I wanted to re-read it. It was definitely nice to fit it into the context of their relationship, etc and I'm glad I re-read it. My original review stands. It's gripping, suspenseful, and overall excellent. And nightmarish.

Just excellent. Fast-paced, suspenseful, and a scary predictor of the events at the US capitol last month.

I haven't read any other of the Will Trent series, but my friend Susan recommended this and said I could read it as a stand-alone. That is absolutely the case, although I'm interested in reading the earlier books to learn more about the characters.

In terms of darkness, this skirts the edge of my comfort zone. I think the excellent writing helps.
