OH MY GOD! I LOVED THIS BOOK SOO MUCHH!!
Tropes: single dad, mild enemies to lovers (since he wanted her from the beginning)so more like hate to lovers, age gap (even though it's not a big deal in the book)
I loved every single second of it. Their banter was amazing. It reminded me of Josh and Jules from Twisted Hate by Ana Huang. And it wasn't even just their relationship that I loved. I loved how she was with his son, how close she was with her family, how she and her siblings call her stepmom 'the evil one' (even though they consider her their real mom and she's so good to them), his relationship with his employee, and how they become their own family.
This book is about Tara and Ethan. Tara is meant to take over her father's company, until her father sells his company to Ethan. Because of this she immediately hates Ethan, and Ethan thinks she is a spoiled brat. Despite all of that, Ethan wanted her from the second her laid his eyes on her. And during the transition of selling the company, she refuses to be cordial, and then he doesn't put up with her attitude and basically tells on her to her father. Then he inserts himself into her life to basically force them to spend time together, and everything changes the instant she meets his son. She begins to see him in a new light. One day, they decide to have one night together and never see each other again. One night turns into one weekend, and then they don't see each other for two weeks until he relents and goes back to her and tells her he misses her. Throughout their relationship, their banter persists even though they fall desperately in love with each other. She falls for his asshole personality, and he fall for her bratty and stubborn personality. They instantly become a little family, and I LOVE it so MUCH. And there's a moment in the epilogue where his son (Vincent) called Tara something, and OH MY GOSH, I quite literally screamed for joy!! It was so full circle, I LOVED IT!!
This book revolves around their relationship and there's no other plot other than Ethan's ex-wife tries to worm her way back into his life romantically. And goodness, Tara goes through A LOT where his ex-wife is concerned. Although, through all of it she is such a baddie and does not put up with her and her attitude. Towards the end of the book, the set up a couple that comes out in another book in this series.
Favorite quotes/scenes:
-"And for the record, I'd rather drink rat poison than have lunch with you." (Tara)
"I'd rather you drink rat poison than have lunch with me." (Ethan)
-"To what do I owe the honor, Ms. Taylor? Will you be joining me for lunch?"
"Rat poison, remember?"
"How could I forget? I can send Hunter out for some."
-"I'm like a drowning man who was just given a life raft. She's that first burst of air after almost drowning."
-"What's so funny?"
"You. That's such a change from the first day we met, remember? Miss 'I'd rather drink rat poison' than have lunch with you."
"Ugh. You were such an ogre. A cute ogre, though. With a very nice ass."
"You checked out my ass?"
"I did. Which made me hate you even more."
"Oh, you poor princess. I can imagine how falling in love with me at first sight might have been traumatizing for you."
-"Just so you know, I'm ready to become Mr. Tara at any time."
"You'd be so lucky, wouldn't you? As if I would ever marry an ogre."
-"God, you're so perfect. I love you so much."
"I love you too. Shut up and kiss me, ogre."
"Mmhmm, whatever my spoiled princess wants. And we're definitely serving rat poison at the wedding."
