I’m a major coward, so imagine my surprise that I absolutely LOVED Delicious Monsters. I simply could not put this book down, the writing style was so tense that there were so many mysteries and secrets right from the get go that I absolutely could not wait to get to the bottom of it. I loved both Daisy and Brittney as characters, and I really enjoyed how the story was presented to us across two timelines. I would definitely recommend checking content warnings for this book because it definitely gets heavy and explores themes of trauma and abuse, but I do feel like it was all handles and explored really well.
I also have to say that it never fails to bring me joy to read a book set in Canada. Seeing my home town mentioned put a smile on my face, and I adored the references to Tim Hortons and all-dressed chips, and Thunder Bay gets mentioned!
This book was absolutely perfect for me, I would highly recommend reading it if you’re interested in ghosts, cursed houses, and unpacking generational trauma and complex mother daughter relationships. I couldn’t put it down.
