A Lucky Man by Jamel Brinkley

4.0

A shrewd commentary on the complex relationships between Black children (mostly boys) and their fathers, and the difficulties that can arise when that connection is broken. Though all of these stories are variations on the same theme, every piece, and every character, feels distinct and fully imagined as its own whole, with its own points to make. There were only two stories in the whole set that I found a little too slow and less engaging, the first and last stories. The rest had my full attention.
