Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump by Spencer Ackerman

5.0

Very good, and I'm surprised that it's rated as highly as it is here, because Ackerman calls out "BlueAnon" (though not using that term) just about as much as he does "MAGA" (which he uses repeatedly.

And, it's not just "BlueAnon" in the narrow sense. Ackerman notes that St. Bernard of Sanders voted against giving Obama the money to close Guantanamo in 2009 and adds that the War on Terra wasn't a major part of his 2016 campaign, and that Berners kind of pushed him into making it more front and center in 2020.

But, I suspect that's a lack of self-awareness among many Democrats on the left half of the "duopoly" of the two "mainstream" parties.

Beyond the title and subtitle of the book, Ackerman denotes not only how Democratic presidents — and Democratic members of Congress — have jumped into the "War on Terror," the "Endless War," etc. just as much as Republicans, but, more important yet (in terms of politics), how Democrats have been just as tribal about this as Republicans, as long as Democrats have been in charge.

So, the destabilization that produced Trump? Ultimately bipartisan.
