This book’s biggest fault is its beginning. There’s a huuuuuge time skip at the start (9 months go by in like 30 pages). The characters meet, become super close friends, and start developing a crush in less than 30 pages. Technically, it’s been months, so it’s believable that that type of relationship could develop in that time, but WE didn’t get to see it, so it’s really hard to connect to the characters and fully believe in their bond.
Nick and Andy got extremely close, but we never actually got to see this development (both in their friendship and the romance). I just felt really disconnected from the characters, since all we saw from the start of their relationship were short snippets here and there. Most of the development of their relationship was completely absent from this book. Overall, the time skip seriously hindered the story. ☹️
Also, because of this, there ended up being a lot of telling instead of showing in this book. We were told they became best friends, but it happened in 10 pages during a time skip, so we never saw their friendship develop. 🙄 We were told Nick had a crush on Andy, and, sure, they’d known each other for months, but THE READER only met them 25 pages ago (I’m not exaggerating btw. This happens in the 1st 20-smth pages)!!! Like??? How do you expect me to feel anything about this “crush” when they were strangers 20 pages ago?????? 🤔 There were also multiple callbacks to scenes we’d also never seen… 😐
After that abrupt and really crappy start, the book actually became good. Although I never managed to fully connect with the romance (since I never got to see it develop), I still enjoyed the fluff. This was very much a slice of life type of story, which is something I love. I liked how much Andy and Nick cared for each other, and how they always asked for consent during intimacy, and how kind they were to one another. I just really enjoyed their sweet domestic little life.
On another note: comparing this book to the demon that is *Colleen Hoover* is a crime bro don’t let that creature anywhere near sweet and healthy relationships please!!!
