Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong

5.0

I absolutely loved the duology of These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong so I was so thrilled to hear about Foul Lady Fortune, a new duology that would feature a character that we had been introduced to in the original duology. This storyline takes place a few years after the original and we see Rosalind in her new life as she continues to deal with the aftermath of all that had taken place at the end of Our Violent Ends. She has gained the mysterious healing powers that also seem to be keeping her from aging after an experiment that saved her life. With a new life given to her, she's become an assassin for her country, hoping to make up for her transgressions in the past that cost her her family. As the political landscape of Shanghai and China continues to change - Rosalind is put to a test as she goes undercover to find out the cause of mysterious deaths that have been occurring all across her city.

This book had me on my toes the entire time. I didn't think that I could love a story about Rosalind the same way that I had with Juliette and Roma in These Violent Delights. But Chloe Gong is proving herself again and again to be an entrancing and brilliant storyteller. The characters and their interactions are brilliant, witty, and delightful. And truly, the chemistry between Rosalind and Orion can give Juliette and Roma a run for their money. I was so excited for what comes next in this story, especially with all the hints that were dropped at the end of Foul Lady Fortune and also through Chloe Gong as we await the final installation of this duology in Last Violent Call.
