Heartless by Elsie Silver

5.0

Willa is a bartender in the city but she's looking for a change when she takes on a short-term summer position as a nanny for a single dad. Cade is grumpy, gruff, and rough around the edges; but Willa sees that this is all a facade when she gets quiet moments alone with Cade.

Elsie Silver is a small town romance writing goddess. I've read two of her books to date and her writing style is so crisp and clean, her storytelling immaculate. HEARTLESS is such a sweet and enticing read, I truly couldn't get enough of this story.

The first few pages of HEARTLESS had me falling in love with both Willa and Cade. Elsie writes in such a way that her main characters personalities and thoughts feel so tangible and authentic. I loved watching their relationship develop over the course of the novel. The banter shared between Willa and Cade is impeccable and had me laughing out loud on a couple occasions.

I love the secondary characters as well, particularly Harvey and Luke. Harvey's witty and dirty jokes are so well placed; I love his humour! Luke is such a sweet and kind kid; I loved getting to know him through Willa and Cade's perspectives.

The romance is very well-written and the pacing is just right. There's just the right amount of spice here, with ample passion and chemistry between the characters.

After reading FLAWLESS earlier this year, I loved seeing Summer and Rhett appear in this story. Overall, I can't wait to see what Elsie will write next!
