While most of this novel is fine there's a plotline I don't care for with an Italian immigrant named Angelo with "olive skin and brown hair that fell to his shoulders" that has the main character screaming out her window and calling noise control. After she calls noise control he comes up and stands outside her door like a stalker while she thinks, "But now, I felt the omnipresence of an intruder. I felt unwelcome and unsafe in its walls. I felt like I had been infested with cockroaches and there was nothing I could do to get rid of them." I immediately start looking at reviews to see where this plotline goes because the main character likening an immigrant to a "cockroach" makes me pause, having him be a stalker who speaks broken English and calls her a whore plays into stereotypes. Needless to say having Angelo not only be a stalker, somebody she likens to a "cockroach," but also eventually
Spoilera rapist
makes it all no longer fun for me.
