Crooked Kingdom: Vingança e Redenção by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
This book literally felt like a homecoming. I felt like Kaz and his crew were just waiting for me to return. The only other book that has made me feel this way was Harry Potter. I consider that a very good sign.
Crooked Kingdom takes place right after Six of Crows so I won't say much about the plot because of spoilers. THe crew are basically in more danger than they ever were and they much figure out a way to survive.
I'll talk about the characters to make up for the lack of talking about the plot:
-Kaz: Oh Kaz. He is such a broken human. I liked him well enough in the first book but h e was still so closed off for me. Finally, he opened up enough for me to understand him. He is incredibly ruthless but I understand why he does what he does. He's scared of being weak. He never wants to feel that way again. I get it. Who would?
- Inej: The Wraith. She is still my favorite character. I love how even though life had been so very cruel to her, she stayed true to who she was. She didn't forsake her religion and was able to still laugh and enjoy the company of her friends. She still held onto the hope of seeing her parents again. I like to think she kept the team together. Plus, I really want to be like her, with her ability to move with no noise and be totally athletic.
Ps. I totally ship her and Kaz together and I will go down with that ship!
-Jesper: Finally! We get to hear about his past. It was very interesting and it explains a lot about why Jesper does what he does. I hope that he stops hiding his powers and develops them because I think he would be so powerful if he tried.
- Waylan: I think out of all the characters, Waylan has shown the most growth. He was constantly terrified of everybody and everything and he tried hard to make sure everybody liked him. Now, he is confident, knows his weakness and doesn't hide anymore.
Ps. Jesper and Waylan!!! So much yay!
-Nina: In Six of Crows , I didn't care much for Nina. Her powers as a Heartrender was cool but I just found her personality lacking. In this one, I liked her more. She basically became more aware of the world and realized that people cant' change overnight. Her new powers are very cool and I would like to see more of it explored.
-Matthias: Why did he have to die?! WHY?! He was another character full of growth. I liked that he acknowledged that he had prejudices and tried hard to dispel them. His relationship with Nina was adorable and he was willing to forgo tradition to be with her.He was just as surly as before and I enjoyed every minute of it.
no mourners.
no funerals.
