My Heart Is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

challenging dark emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced

“Can’t I just like horror because it’s great? Does there have to be some big explanation?”

QUICK RUNDOWN 👀
Jade convinces herself she’s living in a real life slasher and she tries to convince those around her it’s true including recruitment of newcomer Letha. Is it really trash bear like everyone is claiming or is there something else going on?

FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
Soooo this is a reread. The first time I read this as an ebook.. I didn’t love it and was very vocal, the slasher references were almost TOO much for me. Flash forward to me receiving the eARC of the sequel to this. I started it but I quickly got confused so I had to go back and reread.

I am going to be completely honest. I enjoyed the audiobook version SO MUCH MORE. The story hit harder for me and I was invested in Jade and her inner monologue of slasher.

Moral of the story is sometimes the format makes all the difference.
