The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness

4.0

I was so excited to find a used copy of the conclusion of this trilogy that I didn't re-read [b:A Discovery of Witches|8667848|A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1)|Deborah Harkness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525097370l/8667848._SY75_.jpg|13190160] or [b:Shadow of Night|11559200|Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2)|Deborah Harkness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320604137l/11559200._SY75_.jpg|16499524], but I wish I had because I had obviously forgotten a lot of the details and events that had already occurred and which are referenced but not explained in [b:The Book of Life|16054217|The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3)|Deborah Harkness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1389281784l/16054217._SY75_.jpg|21839080]. In other words, Harkness doesn't take it easy on us--she has created a fantastically rich, complex, and disturbing last "chapter" of The All Souls Trilogy.
