wow. this collection was phenomenal.
i loved a lot of the essays in this collection, but i think my favorite essays were “dying to be competent” and “girl 6.”
one of the points cottom makes in the book is the idea of “trust black women.” thick gives you the opportunity to sit and LISTEN to a black woman tell her stories. it was really, really great. maybe one of my new favorite essay collections.
