This was a lot of fun! When Life Gives You Vampires is a romance featuring a fat lead who becomes an immortal creature of the night and has to learn to live with her body just as it is for all eternity. I have seen it on the receiving end of some scrutiny because our heroine's journey to knowing her own self-worth is really catapulted by receiving attention from the love interest, but I wasn't personally bothered by it.

I loved the stream-of-consciousness writing and thought the present-day slang interspersed in our main character's disruptive thoughts was really cute. I liked the romance aspect of it but also appreciated that there were a lot of other subplots surrounding that that kept the story interesting. It was a romance at its core, but it was also a mother/daughter story, it was also a best-friends story, and it was also a story about forgiveness and trust.
