The Cross of Lead by Avi

4.0

An enjoyable journey through medieval England, and a journey of self-discovery for Crispin. I enjoyed how it brought this time period to life, depicting the social structure and daily lives of the time as a full sensory experience. Crispin's character arc took him from a passive to an active role in his own life, which was sometimes irritating in the first part of the book but satisfying by the conclusion. The surrounding characters were varied and enjoyable. I would recommend this book to young people with an interest in history or narratives about finding your voice.
