Call the Midwife: A True Story of the East End in the 1950s by Jennifer Worth
5.0
I absolutely love the show, and I adored this book. Chummy is my favorite and I just laugh out loud at her speech and mannerisms. I have midwifery tendencies and just devour these stories. So many beautiful and poignant stories. Who can't help but love Sister Monica Joan. Really wonderful.
If you've seen the show, a lot of this will be familiar but there is new stuff and more detail in many of the stories. Highly recommend.
Word to conservatives: There is a sexually graphic scene in a red-light district cafe (such a heartbreaking picture of that underbelly of society - such young girls so preyed upon).
Starting the second book tonight...
