The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
5.0
i have no words besides: immaculate; but to be clear on one thing, i was not psyched to read this because i kept thinking "god i know the plot, he travels around and discovers everything he has ever worked for has shifted from under his feet" but reading it was completely different (although you could still, in a sense, round it up to that naïve sentence). another thing to note: characterization and unreliable narration incredible here. anyway, i haven't read a book that left me so shaken in a long time. i don't know what i was waiting for, but i'm so glad i'm here now.
