I listened to this one on audio and thought that it was super well done! Also not at all what I was expecting going into it. For me, this was just about perfect in that it was super mysterious without being any kind of spooky or scary. My baby heart struggles with thrillers. This had thriller tags on Goodreads so I was afraid going into it, but in the end that turned out to be misleading. I never knew what was going to happen next, but I was also never scared about what might happen next.
My favorite aspect of this book was the relationship between the two main characters. The story is (basically) about a step-mom who, after her husband's sudden disappearance, finds herself solely responsible for taking care of her step-daughter while they try to figure out where he went and why. Both characters are strong and compelling in their own ways, and the growth both within themselves and between each other was so beautiful and riveting. I feel like that's what made this book a page turner, much more than the suspense of the plotline.
