I don’t remember which one of my friends reminded me about this book from our childhood, but I had to search it out as soon as they did. And I’m glad I did! The story is very predictable if you haven’t read it before. Boy makes bet to eat worms for money, and the ones who bet against him try to stop him from winning. The pacing is so so quick, that I felt myself wanting more from certain scenes, but in the end, I thought that was great for keeping up with modern attention spans. There’s also a lot of randomness throughout that I was beautiful, like when the kids start speaking in thick German accents, or come up with goofy names for each other when namecalling. The writing in some spots keep up with the comedic moments well too, like the “Beans? BEANS??!?” scene. This book holds up well after nearly 50 years.
