Elektra by Jennifer Saint
3.25
Look who finally got around to reading Elektra!! I think I put it on my monthly tbr three times last year lmao. I enjoyed it well enough, although it didn't live up to my expectations. As I was reading it and finally caught up to the prologue, where Elektra is waiting for Agamemnon to return home from Troy, I was so excited to see how Saint would re-tell the myth and how she would frame or maybe even change the story. But she kind of just... told it. I feel like this entire book was a very straightforward retelling. I'm sure people who are less familiar with the original myths would love this, but I was searching for the new perspective I wanted Saint to add to them. I also felt like the book could have more deeply explored things like Clytemnestra's realization that her anger and quest for revenge had had such a negative impact on her life and her living children's lives. That being said, I loved reading about the three women (Elektra, Cassandra and Clytemnestra) and it is never a bad idea to have the myths re-told by female characters!
