This wonderful story is about a young boy who visits his Thai Grandfather who speaks only Thai and they are separated by a difference in generation but also language and culture. The grandson and grandfather find that they do not need to communicate with words because their shared love of art and drawing bonds them beyond words.

Magnificently illustrated by incredibly talented & Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat with brilliant colors.
This story resonated with me and my family. My children cannot speak Thai or Vietnamese aside from a few words or phrases. I can speak Vietnamese but not incredibly fluent. So, when we visit our relatives who speak one or the other language it can become incredibly hard to communicate. The author is Vietnamese and the illustrator is Thai (now isn’t that a coincidence?).
