re-read March 2021:
I just figured out it's been SIX FREAKING YEARS since I read this for the first time and I now feel extremely old.
But anyways, I felt this book to be kinda boring. A little predictable (which I truly mean, because its been 6 years and apparently I retained no details whatsoever from this book). A little jumpy as well, there wasn't a lot of flow between scenes and settings and narration despite the fact that it's 1st person. I do like the character growth we see from a lot of different people in this; some wrapping-up, as well as some long-time-coming development (ie, Mal and Zoya). And I actually really enjoyed the ending. Emily 6 years ago just loved the powerful thrall of the Darkling so much that she was oblivious to how awful he is. This ending is like if Katniss had actually ever wanted to be a love and have a simple life. Alina wanted those things so I'm happy she got her ending.
A little bittersweet now that we have King of Scars... and knowing what I know from reading that, I do have to wonder if Alina will make an appearance in Rule of Wolves??
Not sure how I feel yet. While I didn't like a few things, it was all within reason and I still enjoyed the conclusion.
update: 4.5 stars because I feel like I can't give any less
