(Disclaimer: I was sent this book from Penguin Random House following an article I’d published)

I loved that this was a Black historical romance centered on Black history. I also enjoyed how the book touched on respectability politics and the hardship that comes with growing up and making your own decisions. There was very little risqué scenes but palpable romance all throughout and it was full of tender moments that will make you smile. I will say the chapters felt a little choppy and I didn’t understand the need for having each chapter be from a different characters’ perspective since the whole book was in third person. The pacing sort of dulls at some points but it’s 100% a book worth reading in my opinion.
