i was about to board a flight when an announcement rang through the pre-departure gate informing all passengers that there will be no in-flight entertainment. while i was totally bummed at the time (it’s only on flights that i get to update my letterboxd), i am so so grateful to that technical difficulty cause that’s what led me to frantically download this book, right here.

i went into it totally blind but came out of it thinking that if book ratings can be measured by the amount of times a reader’s jaw hangs wide open - i would’ve broken the 5 star scale here on goodreads.

what an absolutely phenomenal book! i don’t read very many mystery/thrillers so i’m not too sure if it really is as astounding as i thought it was, but the world building, the insight into high society in Sri Lanka, the politics, culture, history…just all of it! left me wanting more more more!

i ended up recounting parts of this book to my family during a family dinner the other night and the fact that their jaws were on the floor even with my (undoubtedly) mediocre narration, might be a testament to just how brilliant this book truly is!
